Mission StatmentThrough a contract with Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! and the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, the Saginaw Intermediate School District, the Saginaw County Business & Education Partnership, and SVRC Industries, Inc. has begun a uniquely designed in and out of school program to provide drop-out prevention strategies. The Saginaw ISD Career Links program helps Saginaw County's high school juniors and seniors attain the skills needed to become succsessful, responsible, work-ready adults. Through our program's ten elements ( tutoring, mentoring, occupational training, work expierience, summer work opportunities, leadership development, support services, alternative school options, comprehensive guidence, counseling, and follow-up services) not only will our students continue to enhance their soft skills, but our workforce will have better prepared employees. PurposeTo increase student academic achievment by providing drop-out prevention stategies as well as developing workforce readiness skills. Program DemographicsParticipating high schools in the Saginaw ISD Career Links Program are as follows: Auther Hill High School, Birch Run High School, Brideport High School, Buena Vista High School, Carrollton High School, Heritage High School and Saginaw High School. The Saginaw ISD Career Links program services over 400 youth between the ages of 16-18 in Saginaw County and now services students attending Saginaw County Transition Academy, Saginaw Learn 2 Earn, Makinaw Academy, OMNI Alternative and ETC. Program StructureThe Saginaw ISD Career Links program follows the school year's calendar. Career Links classes are held one hour after school, Monday through Thursday (some schools may vary). The Career Links program is set up as two 15 week sessions, starting September and ending in April. Students who are enrolled in the program also recieve school credit for attending class. Students who are ready for a work experience will be placed on a career interest/matched work experience during the months of May, June and July. During the summer break, students are placed at various work-sites in order to gain work experience in their desired career field. The Saginaw ISD Career Links program runs year round. During the Months of August and September, intakes are completed to recruit new high school juniors and seniors.
